Jesus Taught Us to Love One Another

Jesus Christ
Two Great Commandments
Matthew 22:37–39
"This is the first and greatest commandment."
Jesus Christ taught that the two greatest commandments are to love God and love others.
And the second is like unto it, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”
Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

[1 Samuel 2:8]
- Hannah, the mother of Samuel, was one of the two wives of Elkanah. She was barren and suffered greatly from the taunts of her rival, Peninnah. She prayed fervently to God for a son, promising to dedicate him to God's service. God heard her prayer and gave her a son, whom she named Samuel. She fulfilled her vow and brought Samuel to the temple when he was weaned. There, she sang a song of thanksgiving to God, praising him for his sovereignty and his salvation. She acknowledged that God is the one who kills and makes alive, who brings down and lifts up, who makes poor and makes rich. She rejoiced in God's deliverance and his justice for the oppressed.
God's power and mercy in lifting the poor and the needy.
Psalm 113:7] and [1 Samuel 2:8]
- God's power and mercy are displayed in his actions of lifting the poor and the needy from the dust and the ash heap.
- Hannah, the mother of Samuel, experienced God's mercy when he answered her prayer for a son. She praised God for his sovereignty and his salvation in her song of thanksgiving.
- Psalm 113 is a song of praise to God, who is exalted above all nations and all creation. He humbles himself to care for the lowly and the barren, and he makes them a joyful family.
